Which cameras work with cloud video surveillance
Almost any IP camera will work. The cloud receives video over RTSP — a standard protocol supported by cameras from most manufacturers. So you usually don’t need to replace your equipment.
Your cameras will work
Most IP cameras send video over RTSP. If yours does, it can be connected.
Any video format
Cameras with H.264 and H.265 connect the same way — there are no settings to change.
Recording with sound
If the camera has a microphone, video is recorded with sound.
Ordinary internet is enough
One camera needs about 0.5 Mbps of upload speed.
How to tell if a camera will work
The cloud receives video over RTSP. It’s the standard way an IP camera transmits its picture: Hikvision, Dahua, TP-Link and almost all modern models support it, and it’s usually enabled out of the box.
Checking is easy. If the camera’s manual or settings mention RTSP, it will work. Not sure? Send us the model and we’ll check.
Cameras we have already connected
We know the stream address for these manufacturers in advance, so connecting them takes just a few minutes.
| Manufacturer | Stream address (RTSP) |
|---|---|
| Hikvision | Streaming/Channels/101 |
| HiWatch | Streaming/Channels/101 |
| Ezviz | Streaming/Channels/101 |
| Dahua / Imou | cam/realmonitor?channel=1&subtype=0 |
| TP-Link (Vigi / Tapo) | stream1 |
| Uniview (UNV) | unicast/c1/s0/live |
| Reolink | h264Preview_01_main |
| Axis | axis-media/media.amp |
| IFLOW | Streaming/Channels/1 |
| Tiandy | live/ch0 |
| Zosi | broadcast/ch0 |
Cameras from other brands connect too — you’ll just need to take the stream address from the manual.
How much internet you need
Video goes to the cloud over the internet at your site, so what matters is upload speed, not download. One camera needs about 0.5 Mbps, and each additional camera needs the same.
| Cameras | Basic stream | 1024 kbps stream | 2048 kbps stream |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 0.5 Mbps | 1 Mbps | 2 Mbps |
| 2 | 1 Mbps | 2 Mbps | 4 Mbps |
| 4 | 2 Mbps | 4 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 5 | 2.5 Mbps | 5 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
| 8 | 4 Mbps | 8 Mbps | 16 Mbps |
Internet speed rarely holds steady, so add some headroom to the figures in the table — about a quarter.
If your internet plan has a data cap, keep the volume in mind too: one camera on the basic stream sends about 166 GB a month.
Recording quality
The basic stream is up to 512 kbps per camera. That’s enough to see what’s happening in the frame.
If you need to make out details — a licence plate at the entrance or a face by the far wall — you can choose a larger stream:
| Option | Stream per camera |
|---|---|
| Basic | up to 512 kbps |
| Basic+ | up to 1024 kbps |
| Super | up to 2048 kbps |
| Ultra | over 2048 kbps |
No static IP address?
Cameras connect through the OwlBox device. It sits next to the router and sends video to the cloud itself, so you need neither a public IP nor any router configuration. One device is designed for about five cameras — if you have more, we’ll find a solution for your site.

Cameras that won’t work
Cameras that only work through the manufacturer’s app and don’t send video over RTSP can’t be connected. Some budget Wi-Fi cameras are built this way. That said, many of them simply have RTSP turned off, and it can be enabled in the app — then they can be connected.
Analogue cameras don’t connect to the network on their own. If they are wired to a recorder, send us its model and we’ll check whether video can be taken from it.
Where to start
Send us your camera models. We’ll check whether they fit and tell you what the connection will take.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to buy new cameras?
Most likely not. If your cameras send video over RTSP, we’ll connect them as they are.
Is sound recorded?
Yes, if the camera has a microphone and sound is enabled in its settings.
My camera sends more than 512 kbps — what should I do?
You can lower the stream in the camera’s settings: switching to the second, lower-resolution stream is usually enough. Or choose a larger option — Basic+, Super or Ultra.
Will a Wi-Fi camera work?
Yes, if it sends video over RTSP. Cameras that only work through the manufacturer’s app can’t be connected, but on many models RTSP can be enabled in the settings.
Solutions
Video surveillance for Wildberries pickup points
OwlCam Cloud is an authorised video storage service for Wildberries. The marketplace accesses your point's cameras directly through our integration, so you never have to export, forward or approve anything yourself.
Connecting cameras without a static IP address
For the cloud to receive video, the stream has to leave your local network. That normally requires a public IP address and port forwarding to the camera. The OwlBox device removes that requirement: it sits inside the network and establishes the connection to the cloud itself.
